Pipe Volume calculator
Water volume and weight inside a pipe, per length. Exact geometry, instant results, nothing leaves your browser.
Exact segment geometry — see methodology. Dished-head propane math is documented there too.
How much water sits in a pipe run matters for drain-down volumes, glycol charges, pressure-test water and hydronic system sizing. Enter the inside diameter (not nominal size — a 1" copper type L pipe has an ID of about 1.025", while 1" PVC Sch 40 is about 1.029") and the run length.
The result shows gallons, liters and the water weight of the run. For partially full gravity drains, drag the fill slider to the flow depth.
How this is calculated
V = π(ID/2)² × LA pipe is a horizontal cylinder taken on its inside diameter; for a partly filled run, use the horizontal cylinder math. Full derivation: horizontal cylinder formula.
FAQ
TVC-110/FAQHow many gallons per foot in a 6 inch pipe?
About 1.47 gal/ft for a true 6.0 in ID. Enter your actual ID above — schedule matters.
Nominal size vs inside diameter?
Nominal pipe size is a naming convention, not a measurement. Always use the published ID for your material and schedule.
